Beth is the outreach specialist for UNAVCO, a non-profit organization funded by the National Science Foundation and NASA to provide scientists with high-precision measurements of the Earth's surface and how it moves. She has used high-precision GPS to study the sometimes tiny but telling motions of volcanoes, worked as a field engineer making similar measurements on more volcanoes, glaciers, in earthquake-prone areas, and even in bogs, and went on to study journalism to hone her communications skills. She most loves communication and collaboration, which are both essential for making science effective in society.
