Spring and Summer Science Education & Interpretation Intern
We are looking for a motivated undergraduate or recent graduate to gain hands-on learning experience in informal science education and visitor center interpretation. The Spring and Summer Science Education and Interpretation Intern will work part-time with the Mount St. Helens Institute and part-time with the US Forest Service. There are numerous opportunities for independent learning projects and for general career development.
Seasonal Recreation Assistant
The Mount St. Helens Institute (MSHI) Recreation Assistant shall assist with guided climbs and hikes around Mount St. Helens and otherwise support program logistics (50%). In addition, the assistant will work with the US Forest Service (USFS) to survey, maintain and manage trails and support operations and maintenance efforts (50%). We desire experienced outdoor enthusiasts who are passionate about introducing beginners to mountain climbing, sharing knowledge about Mount St. Helens and safely traveling in the backcountry. Typical schedule will be 4 ten hour days with regular weekend work and flexibility required; occasional weekends will be off. Overnight camping is required. Start date may be flexible! Guided Programs Coordinator and Lead Guide
The Mount St. Helens Institute (MSHI) is looking for a motivated, self-directed, knowledgeable outdoor enthusiast as a Seasonal Guided Programs Coordinator & Lead Guide. The Guided Programs Coordinator will work under the direction of the Science Education Director and Operations Director to coordinate program logistics including communication with participants, secondary supervision and mentoring of assistant guides, supplies inventory and maintenance and other duties as assigned. In addition, the Guided Programs Coordinator will function as a Lead Guide on weekends to safely guide and educate participants on hiking and climbing programs around Mount St. Helens. Seasonal Science Educator (Ecology Focus)
The Mount St. Helens Institute Seasonal Science Educator (Ecology) supports our hands-on science education programs including day and overnight programs for youth and adults. Under the direction of the Mount St. Helens Institute’s Science Education Director and the Science and Learning Center Manager, the Seasonal Science Educator will act as an education leader and as general education and outreach support staff. This exciting position has the opportunity to support and develop an amazing educational resource at Mount St. Helens. Term of employment full-time temporary position that will require weekend and overnight work.
