Derek Sheffield
Derek Sheffield

Derek Sheffield is a poet who teaches at Wenatchee Valley College in central Washington. His interests include the poetry of wilderness and science. In the past five years, he has given presentations at conferences across the Northwest on the topic of science as muse. He finds the intersection between art and science to be a fertile ground for poetry. Sheffield won the Hazel Lipa Environmental Chapbook Award for A Revised Account of the West (Flyway/Iowa State University, 2008), and his poems have recently appeared in Poetry, Orion, Terrain.org, and The Hampden-Sydney Poetry Review. In July, he spent a week on the slopes of Mount St. Helens cross-pollinating with other writers and scientists as part of the 2010 Science Pulse.
