RESOURCES FOR VISITORS

Situated within the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington, the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument can be visited by vehicle from the north, south, east, and west. It’s important to plan your trip carefully to make the most of daylight hours and fuel. There are no gas stations near the Monument on the north, east, or west sides.

Before you visit, check the Gifford Pinchot National Forest website to make sure all roads you plan to travel on are open and free of snow. At that website you can also view a list of campgrounds and other important information about the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The Forest Service also maintains the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument website, which has current information about visitor centers and recreational sites.

You can also view current weather conditions at Mount St. Helens on the Volcano Cam, a real-time camera positioned at the Johnston Ridge Observatory and aimed at Mount St. Helens’ crater.
