Campgrounds

Sunset Campground Host - Position is currently full

Located on the south side of Mount St. Helens at 1,000 feet in elevation, Sunset Campground is approximately 60 minutes from Vancouver. It is open 12 months a year and is very popular during the summer months.

Facilities:

First loop: 10 drive-in sites and vault toilet.
Second loop: 8 walk-in sites and vault toilet.
Day -use/picnic area and vault toilet.
Garbage dumpsters.

Recreation Opportunities:


Barrier-free trails, kayaking, nearby fishing, hiking.

Campground Host Benefits:

Trailer pad.
Water and utility hook-ups.
Meeting people.
Year-round housing.

Host Duties:

  • Perform light to moderate physical work such as repairing tent pads.
  • Campsite and grounds cleanup: rake up tree debris, pick up litter, etc.
  • Clean restrooms daily or as needed.
  • Mow lawns (mower provided).
  • Assist Forest Service employees with maintenance tasks.
  • Observe and report to Forest Service or law enforcement officers of resource or facility damage.
  • Provide information and instructions.
  • Explain rules and regulations to the public and report trail conditions to the Forest Service.
  • Explain fee procedure to visitors and where fees are deposited. Campground Hosts do not collect money from visitors.
  • Must be present on weekends during high-use period.
  • Must reside at Sunset to provide security for campground.
